Mark: A Return to Enjoying Life
Mark was admitted to Kindred Hospital Louisville at
Jewish Hospital on November 26. He had respiratory failure, acute renal
failure, and severe wounds to his lower extremities.
The interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses,
respiratory therapists, physical therapists and wound care specialists began a
specialized treatment plan to improve Mark’s condition and get him back home.
Weaning protocols were begun to free Mark from the respirator. He also began rehabilitation
therapy with the goal of regaining strength and stamina.
Mark was discharged on January 16, walking out of the
hospital with just the use of a cane. He is now back to working full time in
maintenance and enjoying life with his wife and 18-year-old son. He recently
joined a gym to continue to build muscle strength.
Mark is the second member of his family to recover at Kindred Hospital. His father, Thelma, had been a
patient in 2007.
“The staff at Kindred is all very caring and nice people,”
Mark said. “Some of the staff were like family to me. My father and I think the
doctors at Kindred saved our lives.”
